January 30th, 2010 Posted in Health and Wellness

There are many different myths circulating in the general public about Hemroids. These myths involve everything from what causes Piles to hemorrhoid symptoms to hemorrhoid natural cures and treatment methods. Let us take look at the most common myths and then uncover the truths that lie beneath.

Myth #1 Hemorrhoids Will Eventually Cause You To Get Cancer.

This is the grand daddy of all hemroids Myths and is arguable the scariest. Thankfully you don\’t need to worry because hemorrhoids absolutely do not cause cancer. To illustrate this let\’s examine the differences between Cancer and piles. Hemorrhoids are inflamed and swollen veins that have been created by extra pressure from the pelvic area, either by being overweight or from poor bathroom and diet habits leading to constipation. Cancer is caused when veins have been divided and are now out of control.

Hemroids do not cause colorectal cancer and they don\’t lead to the development of any type of cancer in the rectum or colon. So rest easy. Sometimes a tumour in the bowel will result in Hemroids however, as it may exert pressure on the rectal veins.

Myth # 2 – Piles are an elderly persons health issue

This is one of the most common fallacies about hemorrhoids. This health condition may occur more often in those of an advancing age but it is not only an older persons problem. It can be a problem for anyone at any age.

Hemorrhoids Occur when weak veins in the rectum become swollen. It so happens that as a person gets older the veins in the rectum do become weaker, and that is what makes people think that hemroids are only an elderly persons issue.

It is important to stop here and mention that lots of things can lead to hemorrhoid symptoms and therefore necessitate an appropriate hemorrhoid treatment. For example, not eating enough fiber can make stools more painful to pass while poor toilet habits such as straining or reading while seated on the toilet can put added pressure on the rectal veins that is not good. A bad diet plays a role as does a lack of physical activity. In the same way sitting or standing for extended periods of time can also exert pressure on the veins of the rectum that is not healthy.

Myth # 3 – Engaging in anal intercourse can cause Piles

This is a very widely held misconception that anal intercourse can lead to piles. It\’s simply not true, although anal sex can cause a flare up and irritate haemorrhoids that you may already have!

Myth #4 No Hemorrhoids Treatment Works.

hemroids suck, and you do not have to live with them. There are many things that you can do to relieve your hemorrhoids, and there are many ways to relieve the swelling and itching that piles cause. Sitz baths can be very helpful as is including moor fibber in your diet. IF you have really bad hemorrhoids then surgery can be a good option (and the author has had surgery done successfully – I\’m not going to pretend that it didn\’t hurt.. but it worked! – email for details.)
